re are many things you should be doing with your farm plastics and certainly many more that you shouldn't here are some starters that may just save you some time and money.
1. [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] Only burn agricultural waste or "plant tissue" if you have prior consent form SEPA
2. Recycle waste oil, lubricants, scrap metals and plastics and tyres [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] as some of these will become toxic and hazardous over time.
3. Keep all out agricultural pasture land and housing clean and tidy and free. Remove unsightly rubbish from farming activity, especially used agricultural plastics, scrap and containers.
4. Store farm waste securely, thus reducing environmental damage [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] and any risk to human health, and excellent way of doing this is with a specially designed farm waste recycling bin.
5. monitor water use carefully to minimise leakage or wastage, especially where any seepage is increasing levels of agricultural waste production (for example slurry build up)
Another 5 tips are as follows if you aren't making a sensible plan for future farm waste disposal then your competitors will end up with an unfair advantage over you in the marketplace.
1. Reduce, re-use and recycle agricultural waste, if possible segregate plastic bags and wrapping materials. Collect and store agricultural waste plastic straight after use and contact an approved plastic-recycling scheme if the [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] plastic is deemed no longer usable on farm. You should be able to find a local collector by contacting your local council.
2. Burn waste oil in any appliance once prior authorisation has been granted by SEPA for burning this agricultural waste rules will dictate what you can and cannot do here.
3. If possible sort your agricultural waste into categories for example string, net, fertiliser bags, cardboard and paper, buckets and containers, feed bags, silage waste.
4. Separate into hazardous and no hazardous waste some materials are toxic and should be handled with extreme care. If ever in doubt (COSHH - control of substances hazardous to health) guidelines should be available on request from your product supplier this is their legal responsibility.
5. If you are not sure if you should be doing something then ask for guidance there are many places where you can seek guidance. It is always better to ask a stupid question than do something [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] stupid.
